Anode Coatings for Chlorine and Chlorate Production

DSA® coating technology helped revolutionize chlorine and chlorate production by replacing consumable graphite anodes.

  • Allowed controlled, minimal gap cells
  • Substantially reduced energy consumption
  • Improved product quality
  • Enabled new cell technology

Over 35 years, De Nora has continued to develop coatings for chlorine producing applications that:

  • Exhibit long life
  • Operate at low voltage
  • Minimize energy consuming side reactions
  • Improve tolerance of operational upsets

Diaphragm Cell Anode Coatings

ELTECH Gruppo De Nora invented EC200 coating specifically for chlor-alkali diaphragm cells. EC200 is designed for maximum utilization of its precious metal component. It has demonstrated long life and stable voltage performance in commercial service. De Nora is the only company that offers a coating like EC200 to diaphragm cell operators.

Effect of Operation on Coating Oxygen Generation

De Nora has coatings in diaphragm cell rooms located around the world.

We have the experience to help operators with the performance of their anodes.

For example, De Nora has demonstrated to the industry why new coatings perform differently in terms of oxygen performance than aged coatings with iron deposits.

Membrane Cell Anode Coatings

De Nora offers three coatings with long lifetimes and low operating potentials for service in chlor-alkali membrane cells.
o EC 300 is De Nora’s standard membrane coating. It offers low oxygen and low chlorate inefficiency

  • EC305 offers the lowest oxygen with slightly higher chlorate inefficiency.
  • Millennium 3™ (M3) is a patent pending coating that is the lowest cost membrane coating in the world.

De Nora has re-coated anode structures from all of the major cell technology providers:

    • UHDE
    • CEC
    • Asahi Glass
    • Lurgi
    • ELTECH
    • Asahi Kasei
    • Ineos
    • Ionics

Chlorate Cell Anode Coatings

De Nora offers several coatings for service in chlorate cells. EC100 has a long history of good performance in chlorate service. EC120 offers reduced oxygen performance and is more resistant to contamination.
